My hood doesn't look dirty. Does it really need to be cleaned?

Yes! You may not be able to see the build of grease. More importantly, regular hood cleanings are required by your local Fire Marshal and Board of Health as well as your insurance company. There are about 10,000 restaurant fires each year with the majority of those fires originating on the kitchen cooking appliances and flaring into the kitchen exhaust system. Regular maintenance of a restaurant's kitchen exhaust system helps to defend against fire hazards. By scheduling regular hood, vent and exhaust cleanings, these systems will function more effeciently and produce a cleaner, cooler kitchen for your staff as well as your customers.

How often should I have my hood cleaned?

Code 96 of the National Fire Prevention Association requires cleanings be performed in accordance with the schedule outlined below:

Systems serving solid fuel cooking operations - Monthly

Systems serving high-volume cooking operations, such as 24-hour cooking, charbroiling, or wok cooking - Quarterly

Systems serving moderate-volume cooking operations - Semiannually

Systems serving low-volume cooking operations, such as churches, day camps, seasonal businesses, or senior centers - Annually

How long does it take to clean my hood and exhaust system?

That depends on several factors. The size of the hood determines the number of filters. The larger the hood, the more filters and therefore the longer the cleaning time. Boston Power Wash will provide you with a Free Quote which will take into account the size of your system and the amount of cleaning needed.
